Obama's Speech 9/10/2014 - Zachary Ketzer

I sat down and watched President Obamas speech about ISIS on September 10, 2014 with my father. During this speech, he kept telling me how this speech was very similar to a speech that former President George W. Bush gave in the days after 9/11. Much like Bush, Obama has a serious dilemma on his hands; how can we get the support needed to act on these terrorist groups from Congress? I was too young to remember Bush's speech, but Obama's speech seemed as it was geared to accomplish two things; inform the public about what is actually going on with ISIS and to rally the American people to believe that they need to be eliminated. For the most part, I believe that Obama gave us enough information about the issue that will help us to have a better grasp on the conflict. Yes, there are some things that I would have liked for him to clarify on, but I was able to do my own research on those topics. The one quote from this speech that led me to believe it was a rallying speech was "If you threaten America, you will find no safe have." Just hearing that gives me chills and I'm sure it does for many Americans. This speech wasn't perfect, but it accomplished the two things that I feel are very important to the public. We will find out if this speech was truly successful in the upcoming weeks, months, or years.
