President Obama's ISIS speech- Cheryl Solomon
President Barack Obama’s speech on September 10th about the terrorist group, ISIS, was very informative, but I found that there were a few moments where he contradicted his self. It was great that he made sure to mention that ISIS doesn’t represent all Islamic views, which is apparent because a majority of their victims were Muslims. The president continued by listing some of the terrible acts from the group, such as killing children, raping women, and beheading American journalists. I loved all of the points he was making until he said, “… [We] can’t do for [them] what they must do for themselves.” I wouldn’t have been confused if he didn’t also mention the airstrikes sent by our country that killed several members of the terrorist group. It’s great that the weaponry saved lives, but it seems as if he went against what he said. He also stated that 475 service members would be sent into the country, but he made sure to repeat that it isn’t meant to be for combat; their presence would be to offer ‘training’ to the groups in the country fighting against ISIS. I found myself asking, “What kind of training?”
I do agree that something needs to be done about this group. It is a problem because these horrific acts have the possibility of spreading. I only wish that the president could’ve been direct. He seemed to want to reassure Americans that there wouldn’t be a war, but the acts done previously seem to be leading us right to that.

Your blog was extremely well written and proved some of the very points that I also mentioned in my blog write up. The contradictions that were mentioned by President Obama were extremely confusing and misstated leaving many Americans really contemplating the ultimate question that you also addressed: By us sending 475 soldiers over to participate in "noncombat" acts, will it really stay that way in the means that it won't lead to war? You post made me question our motivates as a country as we send more and more troops over to stabilize the ISIS group but won't this cause the United States to start nothing but another war before we can even come to a compromise with the war we have currently been in for ten plus years?
