Legendary Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta Has Died

Oscar de la Renta, the well known gentleman designer who dressed hundreds of socialites and celebrities, has died. He was 82.

De la Renta died Monday evening (Oct. 20) at his Connecticut home. He was surrounded by family and friends and "more than a few dogs," according to a handwritten statement signed by his stepdaughter Eliza Reed Bolen and her husband, Alex Bolen. The statement did not specify a cause of death, but de la Renta had spoken in the past of having cancer.

Oscar was born in the Dominican Republic in 1932. He designed for Lanvin and Balmain throughout his career, as well as his very own fashion house.

He is known for dressing first ladies from Jackie Kennedy, to Nancy Reagan, to Michelle Obama. His latest master piece was the wedding dress of Almal Alamuddin, the now wife of George Clooney.

Oscar de la Renta truly left a mark in the fashion industry. His ability to make woman look and feel beautiful will truly be missed.
